8 Celebrities Who Fixed Their Skin Problems

8 Celebrities Who Fixed Their Skin Problems

Imagine you are famous and you have millions of people scrutinizing every single pore on your face. On top of that you have bad skin, acne, discoloration, scars, enlarged pores, etc., and your skin takes center stage on the big screen, or possibly worse, in high definition.

Check out this gallery of seven stars who have fixed their problem skin to reveal the flawless faces we all envy. The tricks and procedures that helped these celebs perfect their complexion are available to you as well. See what targeted treatments the best dermatologists and plastic surgeons use to fix even the worst skin problems.

Rosacea—a chronic inflammatory condition resulting in blotchiness, dryness or bumpy, rough skin—can cause redness and whiteheads just like acne. However, unlike acne there are also broken or dilated capillaries involved. If you suffer from rosacea, like Bridget Jones’ star Renée Zellweger, keep it under control with a combination of oral antibiotics and products that contain ingredients like azelaic acid and sometimes even retinoids. Lasers, like IPL, can help by reparing the deeper layers of skin and strengthening the blood vessels.

1/7 – Cameron Diaz’s skin requires diligent care because of her acneic complexion. “She’s conscious of it and goes to great measures to handle and correct it,” says her aesthetician Christopher Watt. “Uneven skin tone, sun damage and hyperpigmentation are issues that plague her complexion,” he says. “I regularly do microdermabrasion on her, with a lactic acid peel. I also put her under a blue LED light to lessen breakouts and do microcurrent work to tighten and tone.”

Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive treatment that utilizes a diamond- or bristle-tip head to lightly buff the skin. It will leave the skin clearer and more even in tone after only a few treatments.

2/7 – Maria Sharapova is constantly sweating on the tennis court, which doesn’t cause acne per se, but can cause bacteria on the skin if constantly wiped with a dirty towel or sweatband. The summer heat also exacerbates the situation, causing the sebaceous glands to work overtime producing excess oil, making slickness more prevalent.

The best ingredient for fighting bacteria is benzoyl peroxide, which suffocates the bacteria so it can’t thrive. Use it either allover or as a spot-treatment. Probiotics and oxygen products work toward the same goal.

3/7- Eva Longoria, who is constantly in the spotlight, struggles with oily skin and breakouts.

To spot treat areas, topical sulfur applied to the breakout can unclog the pores and minimize the pimple-causing oil. Alternatively, pimples can be spot treated with cortisone injections—a quick way to take down inflammation and swelling in nodules and cysts in a few days. But, the injections can only be used in isolated areas and not as a regular treatment.

4/7- Even the occasional pimple can be extremely annoying, as Gwyneth Paltrow can attest. To avoid the ill effects of oily/acne-prone skin, take a cue from Gwyneth who maintains a clean, organic diet. What you put into your body has a direct effect on your complexion, so feed yourself with foods that will nourish and sustain your skin.

5/7- It looks like party-girl Kate Moss has discovered that stress, hormones, the sun and even alcohol and a lack of sleep can trigger inflammation. If your acne is resistant to conventional treatments, try a series of light-based professional treatments. Blue and red light treatments have an anti-inflammatory effect by killing bacteria in the pores and stimulating new fibroblasts to help heal the skin. Light combined with vacuum treatment, known as Isolaz, can help clear the dirt and oil in your pores to target the source of blemished skin.

6/7- Victoria Beckham suffered from some pretty bumpy skin, but lately she has been sporting a radiant complexion. Fillers, like Juvederm or Restylane, may be your best bet to treat more severe scars. “Rolling-hills scars, where the contour is a bit wavy, can easily be corrected with fillers.

7/7- Madonna isn’t suffering from acne, but age is starting to take its toll on her skin. One of the easiest ways to prevent sagging skin and fight the signs of aging is by wearing an SPF everyday. To treat skin that has already begun to droop, ask your derm or plastic surgeon about the non-invasive device Ulthera which uses high-frequency ultrasound technology to deliver energy deep down below the skin targeting the same muscle layer addressed in a facelift.

Everything you need to know about Hollywood’s hottest anti-aging secret

Everything you need to know about Hollywood’s hottest anti-aging secret

It’s hard to believe the beautiful actress railing against plastic surgery when she looks exactly like she did in that decade-old rom-com. However these age-defying celebs aren’t lying about going under the knife: They just know about Ultherapy, the only FDA-approved non-invasive treatment for lifting the skin on the neck, chin, and brow.

1. A natural process equals a natural lift.
Ultherapy uses ultrasound waves that cross deep into the tissue to denature the collagen, and therefore, stimulate new collagen growth. Essentially, the natural process pumps up the volume where you need it most.

2. It improves the skin in ways surgery can’t.
Ultherapy not only delivers a beautiful lift and boost but it really makes the skin look better than what you could get with a surgical facelift. A facelift only cuts and lifts, and doesn’t actually treat the skin like Ultherapy does.

3. Everyone can afford it.
Ultherapy is priced per pulse, which means the cost is adjusted for those who are only aiming to improve vertical lines above the lip versus someone treating their full face and neck.

4. Easy in, easy out, and not a vacation day wasted.
Two magical words: no downtime. You can have minor swelling or minor bruising, but that’s just about it.

Men Choosing Coolsculpting

Men Choosing Coolsculpting

According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, men currently account for 10% of all cosmetic treatments. Just last year, men underwent approximately one million cosmetic procedures. Of the procedures elected, most were minimally invasive or non-surgical treatments as most men report dissatisfaction with the treatment time, pain and/or recovery associated with more invasive procedures. For this reason, more and more men are turning to CoolSculpting, the newest body contouring procedure to hit the market, offering a revolutionary, non-surgical solution for reducing localized fat cells with no pain and no downtime.
The top five reasons why men are choosing CoolSculpting are as follows:

  • Non-surgical, non-invasive treatment equals no anesthesia and no pain
  • Fast treatment times
  • No recovery period
  • Effective at reducing targeted fat cells
  • Gradual onset that offers natural-looking results

Don’t Burn the Fat, Freeze It

CoolSculpting helps eliminate targeted areas of excess fat through a unique process called cryolipolysis which uses freezing temperatures to activate the body’s own natural destruction of fat cells. The procedure is pain free and no medication or anesthesia of any kind is needed. Patients are free to read, work on laptops or take a quick nap during the treatment. A gel is all that is applied to protect the skin followed by the cooling device which delivers freezing temperatures to the underlying cells. The procedure can be done in under an hour or during one’s lunch break, so no time off work is required. Men can return to work or their busy, active lifestyle immediately following their CoolSculpting session. Since the body naturally absorbs the fat over a period of eight to twelve weeks, people won’t question or even realize that you received any treatment and results will appear natural. CoolSculpting studies have shown up to a 25% fat reduction in successfully treated patients. Exercise and healthy eating is recommended to help patients maintain long-lasting results.

Khloe Kardashian uses CoolSculpting!

Khloe Kardashian uses CoolSculpting!  69459-khloeprocedures.jpg.660x0_q80_crop-scale_upscale

Living in the public eye, Khloé has to deal with the backlash that comes with the change, which means stories that are flooded with tales of plastic surgery. “People say I’ve had my butt done or I’ve had liposuction. When I hear that I have fake body parts it frustrates me, but I also take it as a compliment. I bust my ass every day, so I get annoyed when people say I’ve had liposuction and my hard work gets discredited. Yet
on the other hand, I take it as
a compliment because it’s like
I look that good that my butt looks fake,” she says.

In fact, the self-proclaimed Botox virgin says she doesn’t have an issue with plastic surgery or fillers for that matter. “I haven’t done Botox or anything like that yet, but I have no problem doing it. If I need filler, and when I do, because one day I will, I’m going to get it. But until then, I’ll do whatever I can to prevent wrinkles and aging.”

To preserve her looks, Khloé’s anti-aging routine weighs heavy in the facial oil department. “I’m like a creature of habit; I like what I like. I know that oils seem really heavy for your face, but they’re not. I noticed such a change in my skin and its elasticity, especially on my forehead.”

One beauty treatment she perks up about is lasers. “I love lasers and I do a ton of them on my face; I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that. I do them more for discoloration, but they do tighten, too. I’ve also done CoolSculpting and treatments for the stretch marks on my butt. I’m a huge fan of lasers and I love them.”

Mariah Carey Slims Down with CoolSculpting

Mariah Carey Slims Down with CoolSculpting  mariah blog

The ever-radiant Mariah Carey was all smiles at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, and for good reason.  The superstar debuted a brand new body! But how did the mother of 4 year old twins lose so much weight so quickly?  “The conventional way of course,” the Carey insider says.  “Dieting and CoolSculpting!”

Mariah Carey looked like a glowing holiday queen at this year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.  The songstress, who performed at the annual event, wore a flowing red gown that showed off her fabulous curves – and what appears to be a noticeably slimmer figure. “From the photos and from everything I’ve been following, she definitely has lost a significant amount of weight,” says Stephen Davis, MD, board-certified plastic surgeon.

So how did she do it?  Sources say CoolSculpting, a trademarked term for cryolipolysis (cold-assisted fat breakdown), is rising in popularity as a way to reduce fat without surgery.  The cosmetic procedure uses a special device to freeze a specific area of the body, killing the fat cells but leaving other tissue unharmed. And here’s the crazy thing:  “It actually works,” says weight loss expert Charlie Seltzer, MD, an obesity specialist in Pennsylvania.

A 2014 study in the journal Clinical, Cosmetic, and Investigational Dermatology concluded that “cryolipolysis is considered to be both safe and effective.”  It actually freezes the fat, causing an average reduction of 25% of the thickness of fat after one one-hour session with no scars or surgery.  This procedure is scientifically proven to work, and is used for all parts of the body, including the tummy, arms, love handles, back fat, man boobs, inner and outer thighs, and double chin.

The FDA first approved the device in 2010.   “It’s basically a suction applicator that pulls an area of fat inside the cup when you turn it on.  Once inside the applicator, the area gets super-cold.  For the first five minutes it feels like someone is pinching you and then it becomes numb.  In about an hour, the fat cells that have been sucked in become like a frozen stick of butter.  The area is massaged for two minutes to break up the fat cells and dissolve the stick of butter.

Why doesn’t the skin freeze and die, too?  Fat deposits are vascularized differently from skin and other surrounding tissues, which protects the skin but not the fat cells.

The treated fat cells are necrotized (that is, they die off), and the body eliminates the waste naturally over a period of weeks.  Within two weeks, the area might not look as full as it used to, and within four weeks, it will be “markedly changed.“

“The new photos of Mariah Carey on Thanksgiving suggest that she has lost at least 45 pounds in two months, “ says celebrity trainer, Charlene Ciardiello.  “She looks incredible.”

Botox Do’s and Don’ts

In this blog you’ll find a checklist for the things you should and shouldn’t do before you get Botox, during a Botox treatment, and after you get Botox injections so you can get the absolute best results. For more information on Botox, visit us for Botox in Fort Worth, send us an email or call us at (817) 484-0300 to request your free consultation!

What to do BEFORE Botox

Here are steps you should take to prepare for a Botox treatment so you ensure a good experience:

  • Be transparent with your practitioner – For your safety, tell your Botox practitioner as much about your medical history as possible so he/she can determine whether you are a good candidate to receive cosmetic Botox. Tell your doctor: What medication you are taking, what allergies you have, If you have any medical conditions, illnesses, or diseases, and anything else you can think of.
  • Be on the same page as your practitioner – Make sure both you and your physician are clear about what facial areas you want to treat, how you ideally want them to be fixed, and what the ideal final result may be. Different people have different aesthetics. For instance, if the “frozen face” look is your practitioner’s definition of successful Botox but you disagree, you better make sure both of you are aiming for the same target or you’ll end up with a result your practitioner thinks is beautiful but you think is horrific.
  • Have realistic expectations about what Botox can do – Botox results can be drastically good, but your post-Botox results may not be as perfect as you expect them to be. Having realistic expectations about your results will save you from unnecessary disappointment.
  • Stop taking medication that can thin the blood – A week before you get Botox injections, stop taking: Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Exedrin, St. John’s Wart, Vitamin E, Fish oil or Omega-3s, Ginko Bilboa, and Ginseng. This will minimize any potential post-Botox bruising. If you have to take pain medication, Tylenol is okay. Also, avoid drinking alcohol a few days before you get Botox.

Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Make a list of questions you want to ask your physician and bring it with you to your Botox consultation. That way you won’t forget what you want to ask. Ask how much the treatment will cost, how many units of Botox you will need, how long the he/she has been giving Botox injections, etc. Ask about side effects, risks, and how you should take care of your skin after Botox and how often someone with your skin condition should get Botox.

What to do DURING Botox

What you do during Botox is not as important as what you do before and after Botox, but here are some things you should keep in mind for a good treatment session:

  • Go au naturel – Your skin will be cleaned with rubbing alcohol or an antiseptic before you get Botox, so feel free to show up to your appointment with nothing on your skin. If you wear makeup, they will take it off anyway.
  • Stay still but pay attention – If you are afraid of needles, don’t make yourself writhe with discomfort by thinking about them. Set your mind on something random, like monkeys juggling pineapples. The Botox will be over before you know it. Stay still but pay attention and follow your practitioner’s instructions. He/she will tell you to smile, relax, frown, etc. during the injection process.
  • Use an ice pack – Ice before, during, and after Botox can help reduce any potential signs of bruising.

What to do AFTER Botox

What you do after Botox and how you take care of your skin is very important. Here are some things you should and shouldn’t do after getting Botox injections:

  • Don’t touch your the injection site
  • Avoid strenuous physical activity
  • Avoid consuming large amounts of alcohol
  • Avoid getting facials, chemical peels, microdermabrasion, etc. for 24 hours.
  • topical vitamin K and arnica can help bruises

Taking these measure before, during, and after Botox will help you get both a better experience and better results. For more information, visit our Botox service page, send us an email or call us at (817) 484-0300 to request your free consultation!

Fall Skin Care

Skin Care for Fabulous Fall Skin

As the days grow shorter, the temperatures drop, and the air becomes drier, your skin may lose precious moisture. Autumn is a time of transition, and the best autumn skin care routines will correct any summer damage that has occurred and prepare your skin for winter.

Sun, chlorine, and saltwater may have taken a toll on your skin throughout the summer, so fall is a time to exfoliate and moisturize. Follow these fall skin care tips for fabulous, healthy skin:

  • Ditch the Soap – Fragrant soapy scrubs might feel (and smell) wonderful after a day at the beach, but they leave your skin dry. When fall arrives, switch to a soap-free hydrating cleanser. It’s time to put away the gels and bring out the creamy body wash.
  • Exfoliate with an Oil-Based Scrub – The summer sun and chlorine may have left your skin feeling dry and flaky. Start the new season off with a full-body exfoliation session. Oil-based scrubs are wonderful because they exfoliate and hydrate.
  • Switch from lotion to cream – As the air becomes drier, your skin needs a thicker moisturizer. Creams provide a stronger oily barrier, which means they both reduce water loss from the outer layer of skin and provide hydration to this layer of skin at the same time.
  • Protect your Lips – Start moisturizing now to prevent dry, cracked lips this winter. Use a non-petroleum based lip balm for best results.
  • Invest in Hand Cream – Hands often become dry and cracked during fall and winter. An ounce of prevention really is worth a pound of cure. Start moisturizing your hands now to ensure soft, supple hands all winter long.

Five Benefits of Ultherapy

The Benefits of Ultherapy

Did you know Ultherapy is currently the only procedure approved by the U.S. FDA for lifting the skin? Ultherapy is a non-invasive procedure that utilizes ultrasound to treat the identified area of the skin. There are a variety of benefits of Ultherapy that can be derived from the procedure. It is designed to target the collagen-producing layer deep beneath the skin, revitalizing that layer.

If you’re considering a facelift but don’t want to undergo a surgical procedure, Ultherapy could be right for you. Because it is a non-invasive procedure, Ultherapy can give you quick results with virtually no down time. You can get back to your daily routine soon after treatment. Check out the five major benefits of Ultherapy. If you would like more information on Ultherapy, contact Skinique Med Spa today.

1. Non-Invasive Procedure

One of the most significant benefits associated with Ultherapy is the fact that it is a non-invasive procedure. Because of this fact, a person is able to obtain optimal results without going under the knife.

Because it is a non-invasive procedure, the side effects associated with surgery are avoided completely. This includes avoiding a prolonged recovery time as well as the risk of infection. In addition, Ultherapy is a painless procedure. An individual undergoing the procedure may experience a bit of mild discomfort, but that typically can be addressed during the course of the procedure itself.

2. Solid Results

Women (and even an increasing number of men) who have utilized the Ultherapy treatment end up with smoother, younger looking skin. The process restores a person’s skin vitality. The skin area treated with Ultherapy actually becomes firmer and tighter after the treatment is concluded. Indeed, most people who undergo Ultherapy treatment report significant improvement in the firmness and youthful appearance of skin.

3. Number of Treatments

One of the other significant benefits associated with Ultherapy is that most people receive the results they desire after only one treatment. In some instances, an additional treatment or a series of treatments is suggested for optimal results, however for some only one treatment is necessary.

4. No Recovery Period

UltherapyAs noted, Ultherapy does not have the recovery period associated with surgery. In fact, when a person undergoes Ultherapy, there is no recovery period whatsoever. A person is able to immediately return to her normal routines immediately after a treatment. For example, a person can return to work directly after an Ultherapy treatment.

5. Nearly Non-existent Side Effects

Another of the crucial, compelling benefits associated with Ultherapy is its lack of harmful, negative side effects. The treatment is virtually free of even the most minimal side effects. In the vast majority of cases, if there is any aftereffect associated with Ultherapy, it is flushed or slightly puffy skin. In some isolated cases, a person will experience very slight swelling.

With that said, even in those cases in which these minimal side effects do occur, they do not last long. If a person experiences one or another of these side effects, they will last only for a few hours in most instances.

Enjoy The Benefits of SkinPen

SkinPen

SkinPen Micro Needling

If you’ve been relying on expensive anti-aging creams or invasive procedures, there is good news: The SkinPen is a minimally invasive, quick and effective treatment to combat the effects of aging. If you’re hard-pressed for time, there is even better news: All you need is one hour for the SkinPen to start changing the appearance of your skin!

The SkinPen is being praised as the latest technology in minimally invasive skin treatments. It works as a facial rejuvenation treatment by using a technique called microneedling, in which very small needles are used to create controlled “damage” in the form of microscopic incisions. This stimulates the body’s collagen production as the natural defense to repair and rejuvenate the skin. The collagen works to tighten and contract the skin. The SkinPen can help to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and improve the look of acne scars.

One of the best things about the procedure is that it typically takes only half an hour! Plus, microneedling doesn’t require much downtime. With the most common side effect being a sunburn-like pinkness of the skin and mild swelling, most people don’t need to take time off of work or hide their faces until they heal.

Even better, many people start to see results immediately, with the skin continuing to progress over the next several weeks. The skin may continue to improve for the next 3-6 months.
